Beyond the Symptoms: The Hidden Cost of Eating Disorders to Health, Quality of Life, Families, and Care Teams
While clinical discussions around eating disorders often center on diagnostic criteria, behavioral management, and acute physical stabilization, the full impact of these conditions extends far beyond observable symptoms. Eating disorders carry profound, systemic consequences that ripple across physiological systems, long-term functional well-being, relational dynamics, and professional care networks. This continuing education session provides an in-depth exploration of the multidimensional burdens imposed by eating disorders. Participants will examine the hidden systemic medical risks and long-term quality-of-life impairments experienced by patients, alongside the emotional, financial, and relational toll endured by families and caregivers. Additionally, the presentation addresses the occupational impact on healthcare providers and treatment teams, addressing secondary trauma, clinical burnout, and systemic barriers to sustainable care delivery. Through an evidence-informed, multidisciplinary lens, attendees will gain actionable insights to enhance diagnostic sensitivity, foster caregiver collaboration, and build resilient, coordinated treatment strategies.

Dress to Express: One Size Does NOT Fit All
As the host of the Style My Mind podcast and an expert at the intersection of dress and psychological well-being, Jennifer Heinen challenges the conventional notion that fashion is merely superficial. Instead, she approaches style as a vital form of self-care and a mirror for self-worth. In this highly anticipated talk, aligned with the Within Summit's core mission of celebrating body inclusivity, she will unpack how the fashion industry's rigid size charts impact our mental health and feed societal biases.

Targeting the Lethal Cycle: De-escalating Self-Harm in Eating Disorder Treatment
Description For many individuals battling eating disorders, the illness is not merely a set of behaviors, but a "frenemy" voice that promises control, safety, and identity while simultaneously driving the individual toward self-destruction. This presentation explores the complicated intersection of eating disorders and suicidality, moving beyond basic risk assessments to understand the psychological architecture of the suicidal mind in this population. We will examine why individuals with eating disorders carry some of the highest rates of completed suicide in the psychiatric field. By "unmasking" the internal dialogue of the patient, we will discuss how the eating disorder can desensitize individuals to pain and "prep" the mind for self-harming behaviors. Participants will learn to identify subtle clinical markers of transition from passive ideation to active intent and explore integrated treatment strategies that address both the ED and the underlying mental health concerns.

The Long and Winding Road: Tracking Outcomes and Supporting Patients Post-Eating Disorder Treatment
Understanding patient experiences and outcomes after discharge from higher levels of care for eating disorders is key to improving long-term recovery; however, post-discharge data are often limited and lacking. This presentation will begin by reviewing what the existing literature suggests regarding outcomes after discharge, including patterns of remission and relapse, and factors associated with positive versus poor prognosis. Presenters will then examine challenges in collecting and interpreting follow-up data, including high attrition, limited availability of objective measures, difficulties capturing relevant contextual information, and inconsistent definitions and methodologies. Approaches to addressing these issues and advancing post-discharge tracking will be explored, including suggestions for increasing engagement, expanding the range of outcomes assessed, and incorporating additional variables of interest in longitudinal analyses. Given the vulnerability of the post-discharge period, strategies for supporting patients after treatment will be discussed, including evidence on digital and self-help tools as well as peer connection and professional services. Attendees will leave with a clearer picture of what is known—and not known—about life after intensive eating disorder treatment, along with insight into how to better support patients through that transition.

Cracked Reflections: Identifying and Managing Countertransference in Eating Disorder Care
Treating eating disorders (EDs) often places clinicians in an adversarial position, where they may feel like the "bad guy" trying to remove a client's primary coping mechanism. This dynamic frequently triggers intense countertransference, the therapist’s unconscious emotional and cognitive reactions to a patient. If left unexamined, these "cracked reflections" can lead to therapeutic impasses, clinician burnout, or compromised care. This webinar provides mental health professionals with the tools to recognize and skillfully navigate the complex emotional landscape of ED treatment.

Beyond The Plate: Navigating Meal Support in Eating Disorder Recovery
Mealtime is often the most high-stress battleground in eating disorder recovery. For individuals and families navigating treatment, what happens at the table matters just as much as what is on the plate. True healing requires shifting away from food micromanagement and moving toward psychological safety, nervous system regulation, and sustainable support systems. Join us for a dynamic panel discussion designed to dismantle the anxiety surrounding meal support and explore the practical, emotional, and logistical sides of nutritional rehabilitation. Together, we will discuss how to lower resistance at the table, bridge the gap between clinical support and home life, and utilize modern meal-prep solutions to reduce the cognitive load on both patients and caregivers. Attendees will walk away with actionable strategies to transform mealtimes from a source of dread into a safe space for long-term nourishment.

Adolescent eating disorder treatment requires a delicate balance of clinical expertise, systemic navigation, and cultural relevance. This presentation bridges the gap between developmental psychology and specialized eating disorder care. Attendees will learn to reframe "resistance" through a developmental lens, master the delicate therapist-parent-adolescent triangle, and gain actionable tools to foster authentic rapport. Guess Who's Coming To Dinner? Spotlight Session: Supper Club
In this session, you will learn about Recovery Supper Club, a monthly in-person support group in New York City that reimagines life after eating disorder treatment. Founded by Lily Thrope, LCSW, and Chelsea Levy, MS, RD, this initiative addresses a hidden reality of recovery. While clinical programs often conclude once a person achieves weight restoration, the deep emotional and psychological healing is just beginning. Navigating a world saturated with diet culture can feel incredibly isolating, and the sudden loss of a treatment community often leaves individuals feeling adrift. To bridge this critical gap, the hosts created a warm, judgment-free space where adults in stable recovery can gather over a shared meal. This narrative-driven session explores how the club fosters a weight-inclusive community, offering participants a safe environment to connect with peers who truly understand the daily realities of long-term healing.

From Fitness to Fixation: Unpacking the Societal Pressures on Male Body Image
While eating disorders and body dissatisfaction are traditionally discussed through a female-centric lens, a growing crisis is quietly unfolding among men. Driven by idealized social media imagery, "fitspiration," and systemic societal pressures, the line between healthy fitness and clinical fixation has blurred. This presentation explores the unique manifestation of male body dysmorphia, muscle dysmorphia (commonly known as "bigorexia"), and disordered eating patterns. Attendees will go beyond the surface of diet culture to analyze how traditional masculinity intersects with body dissatisfaction. By examining the clinical nuances of male-presenting symptoms, this session equps providers with the screening insights and culturally responsive tools necessary to identify early warning signs, dismantle stigma, and deliver effective, whole-person care for men on the path to recovery.

CE process info

Each professional is responsible for the individual requirements as stipulated by his/her licensing agency. Please contact your individual licensing board/regulatory agency to review continuing education requirements for licensure renewal. Please note: You must attend "live" (in real-time) to earn CE credits.

Before the event, you will receive an email from CE-Go with access to the virtual event. After the event, you will receive access to your evaluation and continuing education certificate via a personalized "attendee dashboard" link, hosted on the CE-Go website. This link and access to the virtual event will be sent to the email account you used to register for the event.
Upon accessing the CE-Go "attendee dashboard", you will be able to:

  • Complete evaluation forms for the event
  • Download your continuing education certificate in a PDF format

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the CE-Go platform, please contact CE-Go at 888-498-5578 or by email at support@ce-go.com

Please Note: Emails for this event will come from "support@ce-go.com".

If you have any continuing education related questions, please contact your event organizer.

Please make sure to check your spam/junk folder in case those emails get "stuck". We'd also suggest "whitelisting" support@ce-go.com. This tells your email client that you know this sender and trust them, which will keep emails from this contact at the top of your inbox and out of the junk folder.

What type of technology will I need to have to be able to participate in the CE events?

1. This virtual event will be hosted via Zoom Webinar, and you may be prompted to download or upgrade your Zoom app if using a mobile device. A strong WiFi connection will be required for best quality.

2. We recommend clicking your "Join Webinar" button early and checking that your speakers are on before the event begins. Please do not worry about being seen or heard! Attendee video feeds and mics are turned off by default when entering a webinar. You will be able to ask questions via the Q&A feature.

Do I need to attend the CE events live to receive credit?

Yes, CE's are provided for the "live" sessions only. CE's will not be available for the recordings.
