CE: Unveiling The Hidden Connection: Peri-menopuase and Eating Disorder
Perimenopausal changes vary greatly among individuals, yet for all it is a time of major life shifts. The advice given to alleviate symptoms can destabilize strong recoveries, or put women at risk of developing EDs as they attempt to moderate the social, emotional, nutritional and physical changes taking place. During this presentation a registered nurse and registered dietitian with a combined 40 years experience treating EDs will explore the common symptoms and changing needs of an individual in perimenopause, demonstrating how to individualize treatment to validate and support women so they can go through “the change” free of disordered eating.

CE: The System Within the Symptom: The Intersectionality of Family Work in Eating Disorder Treatment
Family dynamics—the patterns, roles, and unspoken rules within a family system—shape how we relate to ourselves, our bodies, and others throughout life. From early attachment experiences to internalized roles such as the scapegoat, golden child, or peacekeeper, these dynamics often resurface in adult relationships, including in the workplace and in how individuals experience and recover from eating disorders. This presentation introduces key concepts from Family Systems Theory, including interdependence, homeostasis, and multigenerational transmission. We’ll explore how familiar family roles and relational patterns can unconsciously reemerge in interdisciplinary teams and in treatment settings, shaping communication styles, emotional responses, and collaboration. Special attention will be given to the role of family dynamics in the development and maintenance of eating disorders, as well as how they may influence recovery and clinical care. By drawing connections between personal family history and professional behavior, participants will gain insight into their relational tendencies, learn strategies to reduce conflict, and cultivate healthier, more effective team functioning and support systems for those in recovery.
